Each work invites the viewer to pause before the celebrated moment—and enter the private space where courage, conviction, uncertainty, and responsibility meet.

The First Release

A quiet morning before history turned.

Released on June 14, 2025—the 250th anniversary of the United States Army—Ponder at the Potomac imagines George Washington at Mount Vernon in May 1775, shortly before he departed for the Second Continental Congress and ultimately accepted command of the Continental Army.

Created in the spirit of Classical Realism and grounded in historical research, the work depicts Washington and Blueskin beside the Potomac River. It does not present Washington as a marble figure or distant legend. It presents the man: combat-tested, aware of the cost of war, and standing at the edge of a decision larger than himself.

The painting grew from Kevin Petrocelli’s 2010 visit to Mount Vernon and one enduring question: What was Washington thinking before he left?
